I placed a request to read based on the cover and the synopsis。 I don't repeat the synopsis or give spoilers。 Also, I did have the audiobook。 This story is just not for me。 I was disheartened upon seeing I was at 48%。 I thought are you kidding me? How? What did I miss? I read the synopsis and realized I am fatigued mentally。 With a heavy heart I will add, I'm bored and the narrator couldn't save this one。 The cover is beautiful and I like the time period。 Also, I don't recall any profanity and t I placed a request to read based on the cover and the synopsis。 I don't repeat the synopsis or give spoilers。 Also, I did have the audiobook。 This story is just not for me。 I was disheartened upon seeing I was at 48%。 I thought are you kidding me? Didn’t think I was going to love this as much as I did。 For anyone that loves Agatha Christie novels, this book is written in the same tone and wordage。 It will be very familiar。 And the treat of a mystery inside a mystery makes it that much better。 Loved it!

I was excited to get this book。 However, completely disappointed by the fact that it was much more fiction that historical。 Which happens to be a pet peeve of mine in historical fiction。 Sorry this isn't a better review。 Thanks #NetGalley for allowing me to review #TheChristieAffair。 I was excited to get this book。 However, completely disappointed by the fact that it was much more fiction that historical。 Which happens to be a pet peeve of mine in historical fiction。 Sorry this isn't a better review。 Thanks #NetGalley for allowing me to review #TheChristieAffair。 。。。more

I enjoyed this historical fiction that leans heavily into the fiction aspect, of what MAY have occurred during the 11 days that saw Agatha Christie disappear and claim she could not remember what occurred , and never did reveal。 The story is told from the POV of her husband’s mistress Nan, who weaves a tale of mystery, romance and past trauma to create the imagined events。 Not only do we know that these events themselves are purely author speculation, I also loved how Nan herself, is an unreliab I enjoyed this historical fiction that leans heavily into the fiction aspect, of what MAY have occurred during the 11 days that saw Agatha Christie disappear and claim she could not remember what occurred , and never did reveal。 The story is told from the POV of her husband’s mistress Nan, who weaves a tale of mystery, romance and past trauma to create the imagined events。 Not only do we know that these events themselves are purely author speculation, I also loved how Nan herself, is an unreliable narrator, recalling many scenes that she could not have possibly witnessed。 A clever premise, well executed。 。。。more

This was a fascinating exploration of what may have happened during Agatha Christie's infamous disappearance。 I found it a bit reminiscent of a Christie mystery with all the twists that were revealed as the novel progressed。 However, (view spoiler)[many of the characters experienced a lot of trauma, and none of them got the traditional "happy ending," which was a bit unsatisfying, (hide spoiler)] but did not affect my overall enjoyment of the book。 This was a fascinating exploration of what may have happened during Agatha Christie's infamous disappearance。 I found it a bit reminiscent of a Christie mystery with all the twists that were revealed as the novel progressed。 However, (view spoiler)[many of the characters experienced a lot of trauma, and none of them got the traditional "happy ending," which was a bit unsatisfying, (hide spoiler)] but did not affect my overall enjoyment of the book。 。。。more

This was an intriguing read! I had all sorts of emotions about the main character- it was quite the roller coaster ride! I loved the time period and the characters- and now I want to go visit hot springs。 The ending was thought provoking, to say the least。 Perfect gloomy mystery with a little bit of romance and betrayal and murder。

In 1926, Agatha Christie disappeared for 11 days, a mystery that was never resolved。 In “The Christie Affair” Nina de Gramont comes up with a story to explain this part of the writer's life。 The story is narrated by Nan O’Dea, a (fictionalised) mistress of Archie Christie, Agatha’s husband, but it deals not only with Agatha's disappearance but also murder mystery, love, romance and the dramatic story of Nan’s life。 Altogether, it was too much for me - too many different storylines (did I mention In 1926, Agatha Christie disappeared for 11 days, a mystery that was never resolved。 In “The Christie Affair” Nina de Gramont comes up with a story to explain this part of the writer's life。 The story is narrated by Nan O’Dea, a (fictionalised) mistress of Archie Christie, Agatha’s husband, but it deals not only with Agatha's disappearance but also murder mystery, love, romance and the dramatic story of Nan’s life。 Altogether, it was too much for me - too many different storylines (did I mention the police officer who is brought back to search for her?), too many fictionalised parts, and all together, a rather improbable storyline。 But the story of Nan was brilliant – moving, thoughtful and believable。 I almost wish it was just the story of her, without Agatha Christie。 。。。more

I win the ARC in a Goodreads giveawayI really enjoyed reading this book。 For those who don't know anything about this book, it is a speculative account of what could've happened with Agatha Christie during the eleven days that she went missing in 1926。 The great originality of this particular novel is that, the narrator is the mistress of Mr。 Christie, Agatha's husband。 She tells her own story and the circumstances that led her to the Christies' life。 So, in a way, it's more about her own life a I win the ARC in a Goodreads giveawayI really enjoyed reading this book。 For those who don't know anything about this book, it is a speculative account of what could've happened with Agatha Christie during the eleven days that she went missing in 1926。 The great originality of this particular novel is that, the narrator is the mistress of Mr。 Christie, Agatha's husband。 She tells her own story and the circumstances that led her to the Christies' life。 So, in a way, it's more about her own life and the need to heal a wound from her past。 As I said, is highly speculative and the narrator is not reliable at all, and that is what makes the book so solid and original。 。。。more

Agatha Christie disappeared in 1925 for 11 days。 She has never spoken about her time away。 Told from the mistress to Agatha's husband Archie, Nan, she explains how she was involved in their life and what she "thinks" happened to Agatha。 I feel the author took a lot of liberties and completely changed the story of Agatha, her husband, her daughter and what happened during those 11 days。 I am not sure I agree with liberties she took to someone most people adore for her talent。#TheChristieAffair #N Agatha Christie disappeared in 1925 for 11 days。 She has never spoken about her time away。 Told from the mistress to Agatha's husband Archie, Nan, she explains how she was involved in their life and what she "thinks" happened to Agatha。 I feel the author took a lot of liberties and completely changed the story of Agatha, her husband, her daughter and what happened during those 11 days。 I am not sure I agree with liberties she took to someone most people adore for her talent。#TheChristieAffair #NinadeGramont 。。。more

Wat een leuk boek! Origineel geschreven, je wordt echt meegenomen in het verhaal。 Af en toe moet je wel even goed opletten。 Daarnaast leuk om over Agatha Christie te lezen。

Thank you Net-galley for both the audio and the e-copy of this story。 I listened to the audio and at times read from the ebook, when I wasn't at home to listen。 Thank you to the publisher and the author as well。 I am choosing to review this book。This is not a book I would normally pick to read but I love to find new to me authors and I like to take part in the reader challenge that Brenda Novak has every year。 The story is more about Nan O'Dea, the mistress of Agatha Christie's husband。 It is he Thank you Net-galley for both the audio and the e-copy of this story。 I listened to the audio and at times read from the ebook, when I wasn't at home to listen。 Thank you to the publisher and the author as well。 I am choosing to review this book。This is not a book I would normally pick to read but I love to find new to me authors and I like to take part in the reader challenge that Brenda Novak has every year。 The story is more about Nan O'Dea, the mistress of Agatha Christie's husband。 It is her narration of how she believed everything happened and why。 Nan had many hardships and dealt with a lot of suffering。 She definitely didn't have it easy。 She believes she may know why Mrs。 Christie left without a word。There were a lot of things that made me upset in the story, because no one should go through what many of the girls did。 It was beyond wrong and sickening。There are some twist and turns in the story most I saw coming, some parts of the story were flat and I didn't feel engaged but then there were the parts that had me upset, so I am giving it 3 stars as it was good overall but I didn't love it。Read it and see what you think because I didn't love it doesn't mean you won't。 。。。more

I thought the book was a little slow to begin with and also found it confusing but then things become clearer as one reads along further and starts enjoying the book。Anymore said would be a spoiler so read it for yourself :) Not a great book but would just call it enjoyable。

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 I'm a bit conflicted about this one。 I finished this this morning and I'm only now sitting down to write this review (6:20pm) There are certain things I really liked about this one and certain things I found unneccecary。 Let's start with the things I did like。I really liked Nan's character, she felt very real, very human。 In fact I liked her backstory parts the most。 The parts in Ireland and in London and even when she was in the 'care' of the nuns。 I found it all so incredibly well thought out I'm a bit conflicted about this one。 I finished this this morning and I'm only now sitting down to write this review (6:20pm) There are certain things I really liked about this one and certain things I found unneccecary。 Let's start with the things I did like。I really liked Nan's character, she felt very real, very human。 In fact I liked her backstory parts the most。 The parts in Ireland and in London and even when she was in the 'care' of the nuns。 I found it all so incredibly well thought out and just fascinating。 However, I feel like this would've been a great book without including Agatha Christie。 She was not at all that important to the story and she could've easily have been anybody else。 I found myself annoyed at Nan's plan, particularly the fact it was revealed so late in the story what the whole of the plan included。 If I'd known earlier, I wouldn't have been so annoyed with Nan for not going with Finnbar。 Which, coming to something else I loved about this book, is Finnbar。 And his relationship with Nan。 He was so devoted and that is something I think you should treasure。 I loved how he loved her, and I loved how he, before the war, was always happy and sunny。 AND HIS DOG! The author had no write to kill off Alby so horribly! Anyway, getting of track here。 I do feel like the blurbs on this book, or at least on my copy, kind of ruined it for me, because the blurbs are, in my opinion, not accurate with what the book is actually about。 And I kind of find it outrageous that someone stated that this 'mystery' would be one Agatha Christie herself would be proud of, which I totally disagree with。 This is not a mystery book。 The fact that mr and mrs Marston were poisoned I saw coming from a mile away。 I think this is a great historical fiction but also a tragic love story, like the author says in one of the final sentences of the book。 So, the blurbs ruined this a bit for me, but that's not too say I didn't enjoy this。 I found it quite hard to read about Nan's time in the convent。 It's hard for me to imagine we women used to be treated like that, like we werent't worth anything if we weren't married。 Like having sex with someone you love, despite not being married, is such a bad sin you need to be locked up and not even get sewn shut after labour。 It's just inmensely cruel。 I thought it difficult to read through this but I do think it's important。 Which is why I am so conflicted with this book, because it has some elements I really, really loved。 But most of the stuff with the Christies seemed to fall flat for me compared to those backstories。 Though I gotta say I love that Bess got revenge on her rapist。 However, that just brings me back to the fact that Agatha Christie needn't been involved in this story。 A lot happens in this book and I have a lot of thoughts on them, but I'm not gonna cover everything as I'll keep coming back to the same conclusion。 This was sold to me as a fictional account of what had happened to Agatha Christie during her time missing from the eyes of her husband's mistress。 And while it was that, I feel like her disappearance wasn't even all that significant in the end to the plot of the book。 And that is what bothers me。 Maybe I just misunderstood the premise or the blurbs or the summery。 It's just not what I expected, though, as I said, I did enjoy certain aspects of it。 Just not the whole thing。 Which is sad because I really thought this would be another 5 star for me, which is something I rate a book easily。So, my general consensus is that I loved the backstory bits and Nan and Finnbar's characters。 But not so much the 1926 bits。 。。。more

I LOVED this book! Can't help but wonder if I would love it even more if I were more familiar with Agatha Christie's novels。 The characters are interesting and the connections/mysteries slowly reveal themselves。 Pacing is perfection! Bonus points for also being a commentary on Irish-English relations, treatment of women, WWI and its impact, and, oh, that flu pandemic! HIGHLY recommend this one! I LOVED this book! Part mystery, part romance, part tragedy, part historical fiction。 I enjoyed the writing style。 I don't think it was quite what I expected。 It was less about Agatha, and more about the motivation behind the woman who had an affair with Agatha's husband。Content warning for sexual abuse。 Part mystery, part romance, part tragedy, part historical fiction。 I enjoyed the writing style。 I don't think it was quite what I expected。 It was less about Agatha, and more about the motivation behind the woman who had an affair with Agatha's husband。Content warning for sexual abuse。 。。。more

DNF at 30% of the way through。 the narration was so confusing in this one I didn't even know who was talking majority of the time。 often had to reread pages and skim。too much fluff。 I feel like I don't know much about ANY of the characters。would much rather have JUST nan's perspective (rather than an omniscient pov) or nothing at all。 DNF at 30% of the way through。 the narration was so confusing in this one I didn't even know who was talking majority of the time。 often had to reread pages and skim。too much fluff。 I feel like I don't know much about ANY of the characters。would much rather have JUST nan's perspective (rather than an omniscient pov) or nothing at all。 。。。more

3。5*This was a very interesting read。 You follow different people but all through the perspective of one person。 This person also says that she thought certain things were done and said which she could never know for sure but nevertheless claims what happens。 This is a very unique way to tell a story and I really enjoyed it。 There was romance, loves lost and also a mystery similar to the mysteries Agatha Christie writes。 There were also a lot of flashbacks from the past and those were the parts 3。5*This was a very interesting read。 You follow different people but all through the perspective of one person。 This person also says that she thought certain things were done and said which she could never know for sure but nevertheless claims what happens。 This is a very unique way to tell a story and I really enjoyed it。 There was romance, loves lost and also a mystery similar to the mysteries Agatha Christie writes。 There were also a lot of flashbacks from the past and those were the parts I enjoyed the most。 At the end everything is resolved and the mystery from the beginning of the book is cleared up。 This is a nice book if you like mysteries written like Agatha Christie's mysteries and also if you're really interested in Agatha Christie herself。 And even though this was an fictional recount of what happened during those eleven days, it's written like it must have happened and I really liked that。 And I loved the last sentence of the book! Abandoned。 Listen, no one knows what happened。 Agatha Christie never talked about it。 It’s weird。 But 1) I already read The Mystery of Mrs Christie and googled the basic facts and 2) I don’t care about the mistress’ tragic backstory; I care about WHERE WAS AGATHA??

I ended up enjoying this book quite a lot! The first bit was difficult to get through but I progressively got more enthralled with the story and putting the pieces of the mystery together! Would recommend this book but would preface it by saying I found it difficult to follow the narrator…it was sometimes hard to remember which character was narrating。 Other than that…stick through it! It’s so worth it in the end!

Nan is a character everyone will love to hate, but they should perhaps admire her with equal passion。 She envelopes the entirety of this plot in her web and consumes everyone in her path, she is also a wonderful narrator I might add。 She has set her sights on Agatha’s husband, the life she lives and perhaps even more。When Agatha, yes the Agatha Christie, disappears in the aftermath of some emotional turmoil, the entire country is searching for her。 Is she missing, dead or has she been kidnapped? Has the treacherous husband got something to do with it or Nan perhaps? What is Nan up to in the background, does she have access to information we aren’t privy to? It’s an excellently spun web of lies, desires, memories and ultimately one of secrets and hidden truths。My only complaint about this book is that it is fiction。 That it is a story born from the mind of a creative just based on the factual event – the eleven-day disappearance of Agatha Christie in the 1920s。 Part of me wishes it actually happened, it’s a great scenario and well executed。It’s also nice wee homage to the Queen of Mystery Crime, although she may not have been amused by the drama of her life becoming the scene of a mystery and a crime, however I think readers will certainly appreciate the irony。 。。。more
